What?

Werneth School puts the child at the heart of its work. We are a creative community, which promotes excellence and well-being. Through instilling mutual respect and tolerance, we aim to achieve a caring environment based on an empathetic understanding of the needs of others. Truly inclusive, we support all learners to achieve their potential by encouraging them to take responsibility for their own achievements through becoming independent and resilient and by teaching them the processes of effective learning. In particular, over the last 2 years, we have particularly focused on taking a restorative approach to help us achieve these aspirations & to live by these beliefs. We would like to share with you our experiences so far, the drivers for our choices and decisions, the successes, such as improvements in behaviour and an increase in learning time for all and the ‘still to figure out’ aspects of this exciting journey.

We would like to invite you to spend a morning with us to hear about our journey so far towards becoming a restorative school.
Our 4 core principles are central to our decisions and developments as a school. These are;

  • Know our children well
  • Partners in learning
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Developing character for learning

These are at the foundation of our school action plan and inform our belief that building and mainlining healthy relationships is the key to success for all our students and staff at Werneth. In particular, over the last 2 years, we have particularly focused on taking a restorative approach to help us achieve these ambitions & to live by these principles. We would like to share with you our experiences so far, the drivers for our choices and decisions, the successes such an improvement in behaviour and increase in learning time for all and the ‘still to figure out’ aspects of this exciting journey. We will share how we aim to stay true to these values and beliefs in our day-to-day practices in a busy vibrant high school.
Your visit will begin with a discussion with the headteacher Andrew Conroy and key staff, including the Head of Inclusion, Jo Dee and the strategic lead for behaviour, Dan Willis. During this session we aim to share our vision, the progress and successes so far and the challenges around our next steps. This will include a video ‘Know our children well’ recently created for our quality inclusion mark award. We will then take a tour of the school, with particular focus on our reflection facility and systems which help manage inclusion in lessons. You will also get to spend time with our restorative ambassador students who will share their experiences and thoughts around life at Werneth.
